High Mast Lighting

Why the Millerbernd SSLD2 Lowering System is a better value:

  • Stainless Steel components for long life.
  • Passive luminaire ring centering system, with no moving parts to fail.
  • Twin winch clutch design protects operators & equipment.
  • Independently driven twin winches ensure that a single cable failure can°t cause freefall.
  • Latching mechanism at ground level, no pole top mechanism to fail.
  • Maunual Tension Latches at pole bottom assure that system will latch.
  • Powered by continuous duty motor designed to last the life of the system.

Operation Made Easy with Safety and Reliability Standard Features
A DESIGN THAT IS MILES ABOVE THE REST

First, we made it more reliable by designing a two-cable hoisting system, then we extended its life with non-corrosive stainless steel throughout the design and finally combined our superior Millerbernd Stainless Steel Lowering System to create a product that is miles above the rest. The Millerbernd Lowering System has features which make it the clear choice for your next High Mast Lowering System.

DUAL CABLE HOISTING SYSTEM PROVIDES BUILT-IN RELIABILITY
Each cable in the two-cable hoisting system is independently supported and capable of carrying the entire weight of the luminaire assembly. Each cable has its own winch drum and clutch, but is designed to work in harmony with the other to provide a smooth, uninterrupted ascent and descent of the luminaire assembly. The two-cable system hoists directly from the stainless steel winch drums to the stainless steel luminaire ring, eliminating the troublesome transition plate of the conventional single-cable hoisting system. When the luminaire assembly returns to its position at the top of the pole, the winching load is transferred from the winch system to the chain tension latches at the bottom of the pole. These latches are designed to hold the static load of the luminaire assembly with ease.

SIMPLIFIED OPERATING PROCEDURE
Lowering of the luminaire assembly is a simple operating procedure started by attaching the portable power unit to the internal mounting bracket. When the drive belt is in place, the shoe brake on the input shaft is released by the weight of the motor. The luminaire power cord is disconnected and becomes the power source for the drive motor. Finally, tension latches at the bottom of the pole are manually released by the operator and the assembly is lowered. The lowering ring may be lowered to within four feet of the bottom of the pole.

POSITIVE POSITIONING
When returned to the top of the pole a centering device constructed of four stainless steel rods guides the luminaire assembly into position as it approaches the stainless steel masthead. Final positioning is accomplished when the stabilizer pilot guide is seated and the hoisting cables are placed under spring-loaded pressure until both winch clutches slip. The compression springs keep the luminaire assembly securely in place against the masthead even though the pole may deflect from sun or wind.

ADAPTABLE LUMINAIRE RING
The dual stainless steel luminaire ring assembly is adaptable to either down lights or floodlights. Horizontal stainless steel tenons project from the top ring for down lights, or vertical tenons are attached to the lower ring for floodlights. This unique design is very stable and will not bind.

The two stainless steel junction boxes have ample room for terminal blocks and wire ends. A power outlet on the junction box allows the operator to test the lights at ground level.

POLE CONSTRUCTION
Reliability also extents to our high mast steel poles. Millerbernd's experienced engineers, craftsmen and certified welders provide poles to meet the strict design requirements of this industry. The Millerbernd high mast pole is 16-sided and fabricated of high strength steel sections up to 45' long. These sections are joined at the job site by telescoping with standard heights available from 60 to 160 feet.

Pole finishes include: Millerbond, Factory Finish Paint Coat, low maintenance weathering steel, prime coated for field painting or galvanized.

Bases:

¿Hî Base
Prevents vandalism, enhances the pole's appearance by enclosing the anchor bolts in a tapered housing which is part of the pole. The "H" base is recommended for areas with pedestrian traffic.

Anchor Base and Handhole
The anchor base is formed from ASTM A588 bar steel stock which is cold rolled into a ring either 1 1/2° thick by 3 1/2î OR 2î thick by 5î wide, depending on the pole size. A reinforced handhole 5î x 8î is provided for access to pole wiring.
